Ribier grapes are large, very deep blue, almost black grapes that range from about the size of a nickel to the size of a quarter. They have an excellent flavor that is just slightly tart. Ribier grapes from California start to arrive in September, with the season finishing at the end of December. Fortunately, Ribier grapes from Chile arrive to extend the season.
The Ribier grape originated in France. The French word for Ribier is Gros Noir, which means "large black." This seeded variety has large, round berries with firm skins.

Dedham police officer Mike Weir threw me a grape 251 Feet at Memorial Park in Dedham, MA. July 19, 1997, surpassing the old record of 243 feet. He plays softball for the Police Department Team and he has a terrific arm.
